I initially called it 'human nature', describing it as 'a tragicomic study of our relationship with the natural world' and how we control, package and refine it to meet our needs and desires. But as understanding of climate change grows, humanity becomes somewhat darker and feels more important and pervasive than ever in the Anthropocene we have created, as the evidence grows.
The humour is still there, but the images as a collection, sometimes presented in everyday detail, make us rather uncomfortable. We can stuff dead animals into boxes, we can use nature as camouflage, we can force and control, but we develop and abuse the natural world for our own convenience - controlling, conquering, sterilising, packaging and perfecting. We have plunged ourselves into a world of contradictions and darkness.
We have ignored natural balance and natural order. We simply cannot control nature. We have been deluding ourselves.
Rosie is an accomplished art/documentary photographer whose work deals with the environment and our relationship with the natural world, family, disability/disparity and community.
